“Wine is bottled poetry”
Robert Louis Stevenson
We wholeheartedly agree.
Wine has always been a large part of our lives. Not just drinking it, but learning about the whole process from vine to vat, from barrel to bottle. Back-breaking harvesting near Poitiers, treasure hunts in Fitou, touring the cellars of Burgundy and hosting journalist Champagne tastings, Team Talini are most certainly disciples of Bacchus.
How do we choose our wines?
We chose the brilliantly entertaining and wildly passionate Verre Gourmand to supply our wine and keep our guests happy, come wine o’clock.
Le Verre Gourmand are a UK company, based in Chamonix and they stock wines from all over the globe. Together, we’ve swirled, sipped and – sometimes – spat a huge selection of wines in order to compile our Talini wine list.
So what made the list?
There’s a mix of classic French (when in Rome… Or should that be Beaune?), European and New World bottles. Each Autumn we go through the terribly arduous process of selecting the following winter’s list. Recently we’ve lapped up a fabulous spicy pinotage and crisp chenin blanc from South Africa. To refresh the palate, we selected a saucy sauvignon blanc and an organic Provençal rosé. We’ve kept things classy with unctuous Bordeaux and refined Chablis and our house wines are easy-drinkers from the verdant, sunny Languedoc. Our Champagne is an appley delight from Mardeuil and we also offer a house Prosecco for a splash of sparkly joy when the mood strikes!
Our house wines are always available for that moment you return parched from the slopes, alongside free flowing beers and soft drinks.
During dinner, your host and chef will select from our list to ensure that the meal is accompanied by an appropriate bottle, although if you particularly enjoyed last night’s, don’t be afraid to request its return!
If you’re an ‘amateur du vin’ and would like to have a guided tasting session during your stay, don’t hesitate to ask, we can easily call on the services of an expert with a little advance notice!
