With recent September weather bringing snow to the Alps and getting everyone excited about the winter, we’ve put together a round-up of the news from the Three Valleys. New lifts are being installed as follows:
A new 6-seater detachable chairlift will replace the two Roc de Tougne drag lifts that link to the new Combes 2 chair. The new lift will take 2400 skiers per hour up the 400m ascent. This represents an investment of €6.3million.
There is also work to increase the capacity of the snow making reservoir at the base of the new lift.
The next phase of development in Mottaret will be the renovation of the Mont Vallon Gondola and replacement of the old Plattières 3 bubble. Watch this space!
Around the Folie Douce area there will be a new piste called ‘Retour Sud’ which will provide an alternative route into Val Thorens. As well as this, a new 10-seater gondola which cost €13million and takes 2800 skiers per hour will replace the 4-seater Moraine chairlift which provides access to the Col chair and the viewpoint at the Glacier de Thorens.
Looking toward the future, word on the street is that initial discussions are taking place around a possible lift from the bottom of the Plan de l’Eau lift in Val Thorens towards the Dame Blanche black piste area on La Masse – linking in with Les Menuires.
115 new snow-cannons for 2017-2018
Last year, the Three Valleys boasted more open runs than anywhere else in Europe!
The new developments across the Three Valleys will be backed up by fast-track investment into extra snow-making equipment to cover high-traffic areas. A huge number – 115 – new snow cannons are being installed in 8 different zones in the Three Valleys ready for winter 2017-2018.
Over in Courchevel Moriond – a popular ski day for our guests, being as far east as the Three Valleys reaches – a new gondola is being installed as well as a 3km toboggan run with tunnels, switchbacks and speedy straights! Helmets and sledges are included in the price, so it could be a great destination for families and anyone who enjoys the thrills and spills of a toboggan race! (And it’s also a great excuse to have lunch in the ever-popular Bel Air restaurant…)
